which essentially means:
- winners stay winners
- losers may eventually win someday (timeline uncertainty spans multi-decade)
also why rent control, so some people lose less
and incentivizes decentralization
our generation getting land is a losing game, do we expect the next generation to talk about equity?
or do we keep going until we cant reclaim anymore land anywhere?
hml phase 76
idk abt generation
was it stratified by generation or by birth right
so youd rather we say everyone reset their land rights?
sure
Im down for that
sure but it’s more practical to give another 20k people more land than to take all land away
its more 'practical' to keep going the same direction, pivoting is pain and effort
but pivot we must
pain for those who already suffer
not pain for everyone
hence rent control, step one to equity
rent control doesn’t grant equity
its on the path
people can save up, build wealth
landlords cant lobby so hard
many good things that can lead to equity
huh
come discuss this after lunch
bcs idgi
OH
the math is not mathing for me
I dont get it ey thibunee
oh
misread that
ok will also throw in another concept to google before I meet
urban shelving
I can come after 3 30
urban gooning
I can come anytime
this was not funny!!!!!
I dunno it sounds funny af
urbangooning
except like 6-8 cuz japan
say it fast
lmao
it does sound funny
@
i don’t get it bcs i can only see a certain group that has majority land and the rest not having land
note to self: don't watch andor with wife
rent controlled rent payers
and
landlords
will never be equal
didnt say it automatically becomes equal footing
classic case of leftist wife with rw husband?
it never does
in your ideal world are there still landlords @Jinad_Ali,
it's like every other day people have a mental breakdown at mv devs
No in my ideal world everyone lives in urban shelving
Imo the ultimate residence system
this is equivalent of commies saying abolish popo
In urban shelves people are technically landlords but just their floor not the whole sky on the plot
It's not, land scarce places all generally end up in shared housing complexes
Singapore has like 60 percent social housing
Very few houses
I did ask some bros
They all declined
You didn't even ask me wtf
Ik you will say yes
So I didn't ask
Lol
You me, @orgonebureaucrat and @kagenay
Call that a dream team

In breaking elgiuses bones?!?
Yes that too, always has violent thoughts after all
Who doesn't honestly
I dont
Im rather passive inside my head as well
Aiyyo
no thoughts just clouds
I didn't run all around male for insurance just to blow it off within 24 hours
We don't want that incident to happen again istg
yeah can you make this
so here’s the idea:
Policy Tool
you’ll make a tool that edits bills for government, drafting, translation and commenting for the public
and you will use ai to translate
and you will use ai to make simple explainers of complicated bill and regulations that have already been implemented
goal:
- civic engagement
I was thinking that too...
We'll lose to a ooredoo bro who made an app and pulled simulations of it on a PowerPoint
Cuz that's literally what I built for the datathon
Seems doable
It's ok cool friends unite to beat ooredoo
I can outtalk any presentation
100 percent yapper
😭 they had a full fledged product was why they won lmao
@Mihawk_123 @orgonebureaucrat @kagenay @Aahil_A pls comment
I just got home
They're your ops

nah not with me
i won’t be involved
but i will make you win
Ive never lost a competition like this
That's gonna be a slight issue
not once
R we allowed to join as AskSheikh sweaters
Wait is there a time limit for presentation like 5mins? Again
Pls confirm so we can beat ooredoo
Doesn't say how long but have to do a demo
elevator pitch viyas ok
questions ga can win
Ooredoo group has a really good person to present the product both time and to attract judges
I think with Jin n me we can yap max
Let's discuss, we can do this
They didn't have a finished product they were outside laying on grass just showed a presentation and figma thing
yea, thats how you get investors, selling
not by having a good product
All sales
oracle founder got his first break before he finished his first proper software stack
xD
he was preselling lawl
😭 we even had the dhivehi translator too
@Jinad_Ali I believe jin could beat her In presentation right @Mihawk_123
I'm

Hello shimree

Is it cos niyaz is here?
no, someone ik is here
Sometimes we really need to gove a disclaimer to people around us
He was not talking about killing then again was he?
that would be mee
There's a movie based on that? I love that story. I know that there was a good documentary released some time ago by Hulhevi media, but never a movie.
It's a very beautiful raivaru isn't it
There is not? I thought i watched one when i was a kid.. all my motivation has been a lie?
I remember a boduthakurufaanu movie. With chilhiyyaa moosa maniku as baarashu katheebu / viadhoru
Or could be Mandela effect
Faithful movie based on Buruni raivaru would be epic. Will require good amount of special effects
it takes a lot of time and effort to go to a comfortable stage. when someone earns something through hard work, then its not privilege. I was freelancing the day i finished gcse. then freelance + gov job after a/l, and freelance + gov job after uni.
just for the record.. my dms are open. any topic is open be tech/business/finance or anything.
And that's how many freelance jobs at a time? How was rent back then? Inflation?
I'm not trying to belittle someone who had a trial by fire with their career and came through by saying that freelance work is a privilege. I'm just saying that not everyone needs a trial by fire. The world is fucked enough and they have enough things to stress about.
yeah but there are people that are like well, i had a trial by fire so should you type of thinking too...
not like freelance one job, more like multiple customers/clients.
feelsbad
how do you break out into the freelance customers/clients world here
well my first freelancing was giving tuition for thoese preparing for o/l and a/l
i am a self taught dev, and my formal training is in something completely different. so i dont have a computer science or it certificate to show. but i am pretty sure i can center a div using css
so my freelancing wasnt in dev work tbh
Ah my response is more geared towards tech specific ones
honestly, would love tech specific ways to break into freelance
but i do, do a lot of dev work
That's your circumstances. Most newbies who were working like me, and people with established shit jobs and families don't have the time. Or even the energy. I don't say this easily. Getting a moment of respite is hard.
Whoops replied to the wrong message. Mb
My advice to anyone will be learn the upcoming AI stuff and leverage that to solve real world problems.
how many have done an api call to various models out there?
What if they don't intend on competing for trend chasing jobs? Everyone is doing that rn and guess what that means. Leaving aside the nepotism, now you have fierce competition. You'll have employers who will make you sing and dance for a hope at an interview. You'll always know that in the back of your head that the job you have is competitive and you could probably be replaced easily.
well. AI is not going to replace you. Someone else who is better at leveraging AI will.
Exactly. People need job security. Knowing that you're even somewhat not replaceable does wonders for morale
World is a competitive place, not just in tech sector. You have to offer value if you are asking someone to pay. Whether its job or you selling something.
does one even have ... value...
Then the obvious question any dev should ask themselves is, what exploration/learning have you done using the AI models out there. And if the answer is none, then that dev is doing a disservice to his/her future self.
Yesterday I think, people were complaining about gazette site being shit.. and @kudanai suggested to slap an AI. One should run with that.
Infact, my submission for vakarauge act 1 was literally an AI slap on gazette, and its available as opensource mit license. One could take that and flesh it out and maybe there is a viable product there.
The repo is here: https://github.com/meekaaku/gazettey
This is not exactly the best idea either. How will an AI know(idk if it does) about our job market here? What the tech sector needs and what fields has a surplus? I don't know of any AIs that can reliably do that. It'll be such a generalized answer that by the time you're done with your fancy specialized degree abroad that you might have sold your soul for is worthless because there is no demand for that particular field and you're only options are to compete for remote jobs or just slide into webdev/AI because there's a demand here.
Ah and move abroad. Forgot about that.
Not to mention this is about the future. 3/4 years later. How can an AI possibly give you reliable information about that?
AI doesnt know that, the human does. AI is just a tool and its a very powerful one and improving exponentially. All i am saying is learn to harness that.
The world will always have demand for people who can solve problems whether using AI or not.
Honestly, I think the problem starts in the education sector. Devs shouldn't have to be scared of AI if they learned to learn. IE, use the AI as a tool. Not a crutch. A/O levels really spoonfeeds people. A good chunk of fresh college students didn't learn how to learn. I personally saw people struggling because they expect the lecturer to hold their hand through it like the teachers do and before they know it they're behind.
Every piece of tech is a tool. If more devs were taught how to understand pieces of tech and put them all together instead of "learning" the tech, Maldives wouldn't have a rite of passage where everyone has to learn PHP/Laravel/C#/nodejs/JavaScript if they expect to get a job.
Hard experience requirements become truly bonuses at their interview. You don't need to do a full course to understand the newest framework. Devs need to step it up too ofc but teaching kids what transferrable skills are, and how to really understand how something is solving a problem is so valuable.
That's what I try to instill in the guy that I mentor.
Figuring that out for me made me never be scared to touch any kind of tech that doesn't require prior deep knowledge. I'm very confident about that.
I'll add to this. For the record, if someone needs guidance with Nix/NixOS, Rust, JavaScript/Typescript frontend and backend, linux in general, homelab setups , networking in general, do reach out. My dms are open. It's muted so don't feel bad about reaching out. I'll try my best to at least point you in the right direction if you feel lost. AI can really gaslight you if you're doing niche stuff or can't prompt it well enough for the AI to understand because you don't know where the gaps in your understanding of the tech are to even start look for an answer.
Also, I might not be the best person to ask for general career guidance( salary negotiations, expectations etc ). There are people here better qualified for that.
